Bobby Boucher.
Remember him?
I don’t know how many of you are Adam Sandler fans, but Bobby Boucher is the fictional character in The Waterboy who is 33 and lives at home with his mama (Kathy Bates) in their Louisiana Bayou home in the swamps, and works as the water boy for a local college football team.
This whole thing is going to be funny if you are a fan of that movie or have seen it and appreciate it in any way.
If you hate it, then please get a sense of humor, because that is one stupid funny flick.
That’s the Bobby Boucher I am talking about.
While he may be a fictional character, there are some lessons that anyone, especially would be network and internet marketers could use to perk themselves up and light a fire under their collective behinds.
So what is it that Bobby Boucher has to Teach us?
To invest in yourself and your business.
Yup.
Bobby Boucher invested in himself by making the best of his schooling and getting an education along the way while playing football for The SCLSU Mud Dogs.
Whenever anyone enters into network or internet marketing, (especially internet marketing), there is a learning curve. No matter what your gig or opportunity is, there are products that you need to buy because, hey, how can you sell stuff when you have no experience with what you are selling?
Buy the products! Get to know them inside and out.
Why does it matter?
Well, for one, people can see through a phony and the ones who are genuine and have that all too easy to tell expertise from being familiar with their products are the ones who will naturally get more sales and recruit more people into their down lines.
There are other factors at play here, though… more comparisons to make (rubbing hands together)
This is going to be a crazy ride, people, so buckle up and read on.
Bobby Boucher Teaches us Valuable Internet and Network Marketing Lessons
The Daze
Many newbies to internet and network marketing wander around in a daze because while they are excited at the prospect of making money online and hopeful for the future, they get overwhelmed and end up looking more like Coach Klein (Henry Winkler) at the beginning of The WaterBoy, when he was on the verge of a massive mental breakdown of self confidence.
So, it’s depressing to see people in that state and the best way to snap out of it is to absorb as much of your business culture as you can, obtain and get to know the products inside and out, follow the company culture and attend all of the calls and events that you are able. Don’t rely on your upline if you can avoid it, but hopefully they are competent and willing to assist and train.
Tackling Fuel
The ability to tackle problems and challenges. This ability, or your “tackling fuel”, is finding within yourself the motivation to do whatever needs to be done, whether that is learning to use an autoresponder, setting up a real self hosted WordPress blog, purchasing online courses to teach you the ins and outs of being a successful marketer, learning about how to get traffic to your offers, paid traffic methods, or ANYTHING else that you need to learn in order to succeed.
So, remember to build up that store of tackling fuel.
Resistance from Relatives and Friends
Whenever you venture into the world of network marketing, MLM, internet marketing, or anything that involves making money outside of the traditional norm of having a job or running a regular brick and mortar business, you will get resistance from friends and relatives who insist that it’s just one of those “pyramid things”.
I even know at least one current successful network marketer who WAS one of those people when his wife started in network marketing part time. Today they are both successful and living the lifestyle without worrying about having a corporate job.
You know what? Don’t worry about what “mama” thinks. She don’t know anything about the subject anyway.
Anyone who thinks that these are “pyramids” should look at the regular corporate structure.
I hope you have that lesson upstairs where it counts, because you’ll have to pass the final exam given by Colonel Sanders before you’re allowed to leave this site.
Treat Your Business Like Your Girlfriend (if you love her)
You have to treat your business with respect, love, and affection. Be honest and ethical and don’t do anything that would soil your reputation or that of the company that you are representing. Far too often we see, and this is especially true in internet marketing, lowlifes who try to sabotage fellow marketers. I am not sure what kind of sociopath gets off on the stuff that I am thinking about but wouldn’t dare to list here (why give them a recipe?), but they are out there.
Also, treat your customers, prospects, and down line team members with respect and give them the training or advice that they need to succeed, since their success will also be in some measure your own success.
If you treat your business like a lover, she’ll treat you well in return. (Lord, I’m so cheesy)
You Can Do It!
Just know that if you learn what you need to, stay focused and committed, and above all, take action, you’ll eventually succeed. Some of the most successful online and network marketers failed MANY times before they ultimately succeeded, so don’t worry if you don’t make it right away.
Persistence pays off and if you keep plugging along and learning the necessary skills and techniques along the way, you’ll be fine as wine, my friends.
Before you know it you’ll be at the major company event, walking up on stage, and feeling like a winner.
Conclusion
So while we hopefully had some fun up there reminiscing about Adam Sandler’s The Waterboy and applying its lessons to the network marketing, internet marketing, direct sales, and similar industries, let’s keep those core lessons in mind and STAY MOTIVATED for the long haul, whatever your business is.
Invest in yourself and your business and do not go the cheap route or you’ll just spin your wheels always trying to make quick money at the expense of the real money that comes from building a business and a brand correctly.
Eventually you’ll make it, just like Bobby Boucher did.
Until Next Time….
