Andrew Fey, 37, fought off 15 cops while masturbating and high on meth.
What was that?
Yeah, that was my reaction too. Now THAT takes some serious focus.
Think about it. The guy gets high the day before and claims he can’t remember anything about the episode either.
This is some string of events. He goes to a locksmith, refuses to pay the locksmith, then wanders to a mall and has to be escorted away, then ends up at Iggy’s Bar and Grill in Salem, Oregon where he starts exposing himself at the bar and masturbating in public.
It then takes 15 sheriff deputies from local and surrounding jurisdictions to arrest him.
Let me repeat this. He fought off 15 deputies while masturbating. That’s one seriously disturbed mofo.
Now, is there a lesson this for us marketing bloggers?
You KNEW there would be…
The lesson is NOT to do meth before blogging. It doesn’t include the other thing either.
The lesson is that you can accomplish almost anything when you’re focused.
This may be a very loose association, but stick with me.
Lots of people out there get nowhere with their blogging or their business because they can’t focus. Their mind wanders from one thing to the next, like this.
They sit down to blog. They get to the blog interface where they can type. Maybe they have an idea in their head or already fleshed out. They just can’t get past that blank page staring at them. They start tinkering with the blog visuals or some other busy task that may need to be done but quite honestly doesn’t have to be done RIGHT NOW.
You have to get in the right state of mind to focus, and that is something you’ll have to figure out for yourself, since people are different.
One blogger might just need some good coffee, or a hard drink. Others might decide that a run around the block is what they need to get into the zone.
Whatever it is for you, FIGURE IT OUT.
Until you focus like a laser on BLOGGING, the way that meth guy seemed to focus on pleasuring himself, you’ll have issue creating enough content to make your blog killer.
I hope that I’m making sense here. Of course I took an off the wall story to serve as an attention getter and to loosely associate, but I think it works pretty well.
Focus is essential, so that is what we’re, uh, focusing on here.
I don’t know if any of you saw the American Pie movies, especially American Wedding. I love the part where Steve Stiffler thinks he’s going to meet the hottie in the linen closet and instead he ends up with Jim‘s grandma, and when the guys walk in on them she’s telling him to, “Focus! Focus!”
So that’s what you gotta do here, when blogging. I’m not sure how many other ways that I can say it. Maybe you just need to quiet your mind and really understand the subject matter of the post that you are working on in order to focus. If you are doing an instructional piece, don’t be afraid to outline it the old fashioned way on paper with a pen.
Make an outline or several outlines if you have to.
It’s all good.
Once you get that structure down, then flesh it out on the blog. Before you know it you’ll have that killer post that you wanted to create.
Some of you may not have this problem at all, and can contemplate, structure, and compose on the fly. I do this a lot, but everyone hits writer’s block or lack of focus from time to time. Don’t let that stop you from growing your blog. All it takes is a little discipline to create the kind of focus that you need to create your content.
When you’re done and you’ve delivered that A rated content to your audience, they’ll show ya their “O Face”.
I guarantee it!
Till next time, bloggers….
